Bloomington Fire Department Receives Hudson Valley Volunteer Firemen's Association Unit Citation
Wed. Jul 5th 2017

On June 16, 2017 members of the Bloomington Fire Department were presented with the Unit Citation Award by the Hudson Valley Volunteer Firemen's Association at the South Glens Falls Fire Department during the 2017 Hudson Valley Volunteer Firemen's Association Convention. The Bloomington Fire Department received this award as the result of their response to a serious personal injury tractor trailer accident on July 29, 2016 where the vehicle crashed into the State Route 32 bridge abutment while traveling on the New York State Thruway in the Town of Rosendale. It took fire department rescue crews about 45 minutes to extricate the operator utilizing almost all the rescue equipment available on the apparatus present at the scene. Rosendale Fire Department stood by at the Bloomington Station and Ulster Hose Company #5 was requested to the scene with equipment and manpower but was turned around while in route because the operator extricated prior to their arrival.
