TILLSON >> A manufacturing building on state Route 32 in this town of Rosendale hamlet escaped serious damage Wednesday morning after a trailer on the property caught fire, according to a fire official at the scene.

Ryan Benincasa, first assistant chief of the Tillson Fire Department said the fire on the Wineracks.com property was called in about 7:10 a.m.

Benincasa said the blaze might have started in an outdoor pile of sawdust before spreading to the trailer, at the rear of the property.

The flames then spread to the exterior of the main building, specifically a rear overhang, but apparently did not burn anything inside. There was, however, smoke and water damage in the main building, Benincasa said.

Wineracks.com designs and makes wine storage components, such as racks and cellar assemblies. Company employee Shannon Rahe said the Route 32 building is a manufacturing facility that has offices on an upper floor.

The business is located where Route 32 intersects with Tillson and Grist Mill roads. Route 32 was closed from that intersection to Perrine’s Bridge Road during the firefighting effort but had reopened by 11:30 a.m.

The cause of the fire remained under investigation.

The Tillson Fire Department was one of six companies at the scene.
